History
Marine Systems, Inc. (MSI) was founded in 1966 as a family-owned business located in Schriever, Louisiana, and its goal was always to become the best in its field by providing premium service in support of diesel engines operating in marine equipment.
The company was successful from the beginning and soon began to experience growth and expansion of its services. In 1982, MSI was acquired by Dixie Carriers, Inc., which was a subsidiary of Kirby. In 1987, MSI began the expansion of its business by acquiring National Marine’s diesel operations in Harvey, Louisiana and Norfolk, Virginia.
To date, Kirby Engine Systems, Inc. (the parent company of Marine Systems, Inc. and Engine Systems, Inc.) has completed 18 acquisitions which not only diversified the markets the company services but also expanded the product lines. Kirby Engine Systems, Inc. (KES) services all major marine markets and maintains a significant presence in the power generation market. KES is now a distributor or dealer for a number of diesel engine manufacturers such as EMD, Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit, and John Deere.
